On Sunday 4th July 1999 (independence day) I went to IMPERIAL GARDENS to see five bands perform as part of the International Music Festival Fringe.
NEW DANDY SUGAR
I thought this band were very good performing their own material. They performed for about an hour before the next band came on stage.
STONEFREE
This JIMI HENDRIX Tribute Band performed tracks like HEY JOE, GYPSY EYES, VOODOO CHILE, ALL ALONG THE WATCHTOWER and finishing with THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER, very appropriate for July 4th. I thought this band were ok, but not as good as other tribute bands I have seen.
TULIPAN
This all female band from Australia were in my opinion the best band of the afternoon. They performed tracks from their debut CD "Manic Celeste", tracks like CHANGE, STASIA, and CLOUD CATCHER to name but a few.
PHIL BEST
This artist performed tracks known as Country Blues, tracks like CRAZY and others from artists like B B KING and ROBERT CRAY. I thought this performance was the second best of the afternoon after TULIPAN.
THE JAZZ FRIENDS TRIO
This in my opinion was the worst band of the afternoon, however they did perform SUMMERTIME pretty well.
